| Surface decoration techniques on clay |
| Please telephone Craft in the Bay to arrange dates. |
 |
This workshop is available to sixth form groups studying art and design.
Potter Morgen Hall will teach students how to create a fascinating array of pattern and design on clay surfaces using coloured slip. Techniques include; slip marbling, feathering, slip trailing and slip printing using newspaper and latex resist.
Students will be able to explore these processes on flat slabs of clay and Morgen will show examples of how they can also be applied to three dimensional clay forms.
Students have the option of providing Morgen with black & white designs, which can be hand drawn in black ink, or could be computer print outs, based on their project work, that she can use to create vinyl and rubber stencils prior to the workshop. These stencils can be used with the coloured slip to create positive and negative designs on the clay surface.
Morgen will show how all of these techniques can be applied to course work and how designs evolve from their source material such as patterns in nature or within the urban environment.

| Artist in residence at Craft in the Bay |
| Tuesday 17 June - Saturday 21 June |
 |
The exhibition space at Craft in the Bay will be transformed over a period of five days into a growing installation of creativity. School groups are invited to come along and work with our resident artist to help create a sculptural structure made entirely from recycled materials. The installation will then be left on show in the gallery until Sunday 29 June.
This is a fantastic opportunity to use up all those boxes of plastic bottles, carrier bags, fabrics and all the other recycled bits and pieces you have lying around the classroom - and work with an artist to assemble it all together!
The theme of the project is the coast - linking in with our previous exhibition of work from the Channel Island of Jersey. Artists from Jersey will be exhibiting furniture, glass, textiles and ceramics - each artist sharing a passion for the colours, textures and forms of the natural coastline.
We can cater for groups of 12 pupils at a time - two hour sessions. If you wish to bring a full class then we are happy to rotate groups and provide activity sheets and drawing paper for the children to explore the work in the craft gallery. A great chance for them to learn about the contemporary crafts being produced in Wales.
There is a small charge of £2/head per workshop.
Please telephone the Education Officer to discuss and book dates for your visit. |
