Born in Bangor, and a BA (Hons) graduate of Brighton, Ann Catrin Evans studied Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics. Specialising in doorknockers and door furniture, Ann has been designing and meticulously making artwork, for private and public clients for 13 years. Also exhibiting and retailing a variety of work, including: - lighting, jewellery, utensils, furniture, and taking on large-scale projects for public artworks commissions.
Balance, proportion and simplicity are the key features in her work. With a boldness in design, the work is either hot forged, fabricated or a combination of the two. The work has a powerful strength in visual impact, using various blacksmithing techniques and fabrication. A firm believer of the notion of ‘form follows function’
Designing begins with developing observations and ideas in sketches and maquette form, at the same time working with the metal. Steel has been her main medium, though Ann also works with bronze, copper, silver, hard woods and ceramics.
Ann exhibits in the UK and USA, and sells all over the World. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Gold Medal at the National Eisteddfod for Craft Masterpiece, Women in Enterprise Award, and Arts Council of Wales Bursary. In 2002 she will be exhibiting at Chelsea Crafts Fair in London.
