Africa, the country of my birth, has always influenced my ideas about shape, colour and texture. My inspiration comes from a cross pollination between European and African culture.

All my pots are thrown, turned and burnished. Forms are based on classical shapes - the round shape, almost entirely a spherical form, being my favourite. In making, I deliberately try to push limits to extremes. This subtly changes my work form purely classical to more contemporary in style.

The firing takes place in a saggar in the kiln. The reaction of salt, copper and sawdust in a reducing atmosphere results in the wonderful spectrum of subtle colours and random patterns on the smooth, burnished clay surface. This counteracts the controlled exactness of the thrown forms.

The effect of fire on clay is a constant source of inspiration - the element of surprise the incentive for further exploration.
