My work draws on the endless variations within structures, textures and rhythms that surround me daily, and the important role of scale in the way that our minds perceive them. I am also entranced by colour & this plays a vital role in all my work.
Much of my recent research has focused on issues around digital output and its relationship to traditional techniques, printmaking and applied arts - looking at ways that the experience of traditional textile making can be brought together alongside the digital.
My work is autobiographical and provokes thought rather than gives answers. The creation of atmosphere and manipulation of the surface texture on which the images are printed are as important to me as the photographs and items themselves.
My digital work takes the form of prints outputted directly from digitally generated transfers, which are then silk screened, painted & collaged onto.
My work is multi-media from the outset, combining digital, drawing, collage & print. I use dye, pigment, discharge and Devore techniques, alongside collage, digital prints & transfer techniques. Wherever possible, and suitable, the fabrics, papers, trimmings, etc. used are from renewable, vintage or reclaimed sources - this is very important to me.
