Description

Tutor: Catherine Lewisdevore_sample.jpg

Cost: £50

A day of exploring the 'burn out' process of removing top layers of fabric to create stunning effects. Can be applied to create scarves, clothing and soft furnishings.

Devoré (burn out/devour) was developed in C17th France as a ‘poor man’s lace’. It is an exciting but unpredictable textile technique that is relatively easy to achieve. Using Devoré explores combination fibre cloths, 'burning' away one of the fibres.

This workshop offers you a range of uses for devoré; using accessible 'hand' techniques and many applications. You will learn the basic principles, how to involve colour and how to use devoré in other areas of your textile repertoire. This will be very much an experimental/sampling workshop, a starting point for personal development. Catherine will supply different samples of cloth, notes and ideas for ways to develop your own personal projects

Bring your own inspirational images to offer design ideas and any print blocks, rubber stamps or thermofax screens you may have as these will help you with your sampling.

Rubber gloves and an apron are essential. basic art kit useful.devore_girl3.jpg
