The craft of forging hasn't changed for hundreds of years and James finds that he has the skills to reproduce techniques from the past and incorporate them into the modern designs.
'Forged ironwork has so much movement; i find inspiration and beauty in things as simple as the old agricultural implements discovered in the hedges around Devonshire countryside. The pure functional forge work displayed in the joints of these relics can be taken and used to great effect in decorative items.'
Being formally trained has given him a very wide range of metalworking skills and this coupled with a strong feel for design makes him able to take on a variety of commissions from the initial design work to installation. These commissions have included work for the National Trust, Royal Horticultural Society, manor houses, bartons, and many architects.
