Currently showing in Oriel 2 at Craft in the Bay is a wonderful array of silver and enamel jewellery and an interactive art piece by three talented young designers.
Emma Pearce completed her BA in Contemporary Applied Arts at Swansea Metropolitan University in 2008 and has incorporated digital technologies into her craft work to explore the concept of drawing as a physical entity. Her practice combines an experimental approach to drawing with cross disciplinary mixed media works that merge new technologies with traditional processes. Conceptually Emma is concerned with the visualisation of motion, energy and action. She is interested in forensic science, traces of actions, forgotten happenings and memories. In this exhibition at Craft in the Bay Emma has created an interactive art work that encourages the public to draw using her unique drawing apparatus that she has constructed from wood.
Sally Pawson creates colourful items of jewellery which have been inspired by playfullness - she loves wooden toys, simple patterns and vintage plastics. Her range of silver jewellery on show in the Blossom exhibition include earrings, necklaces and bangles - all with striking and simple patterns.
Sally's jewellery is all hand made using traditional silversmithing and metalsmithing techniques. She has also employed modern technologies to create her innovative designs that make a bold statement in the field of contemporary jewellery. She wants jewellery to be 'less serious', creating pieces that are both beautiful and fun.
Sarah Hallowes is exhibiting her delicate silver and antique beaded jewellery. Exploring mark making and textures in silver sheet, her designs reflect contemporary shapes, forms and patterns. The use of reclaimed semi precious beads and stones create a fragile, timeless quality to the jewellery.
