Mari Thomas is an award winning designer jeweller.
Working in precious metals and stones her contemporary designs are influenced by her Welsh culture, environment and often include the written word. Producing jewellery that is both feminine and sculptural she creates wearable pieces of art to adorn the body.
The physical aspect of her work sometimes emulates and imitates the structures found in slate and the landscape. This is achieved by carving, layering and fusing fine sheets of silver, often including slices of gold.
Other collections are simple wire shapes, but complex forms in silver, oxidised silver and gold with diamonds set at obscure angles.
Many collections incorporate and infuse ideas with text from contemporary poetry. This idea has recently been diversified into limited edition sculptures called ŒFragile Forms¹, These are based on the turned page of a book and comments on the fragile state of lost or dying languages and the messages or interpretations behind the written word.
She exhibits her work nationally and internationally, producing distinctive collections, one off pieces and commissioned works.
