| I have recently returned to my roots in fine craft and have set up a workshop at my home near Mold. I live amongst native woodland, in a wooden house and this has prompted me to think and work in a more natural and sustainable way.
My preferred materials are local native hardwoods. They are much more interesting and nicer to work with than imported species.
My inspiration for design comes from man-made objects and a fascination with elegant structures. The reoccurring themes that come through my work over the years are my interest in geometry and asymmetry. I do strive to keep it simple. Less really is more when applied to 3D structures. They are visually more striking and sometimes easier to make. I usually start my design process off with sketching so that I can get something out of my head quickly before it evaporates. Then, I explore and refine the concept with rough models using card or timber off-cuts.
