Melissa lives and works in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales and has recently opened "Lemon Blues" workshop and retail outlet selling her own and others accessories from Wales.
Working on simple domestic and industrial knitting machines and using fine yarns - viscose, cottons and wools - she makes garments and accessories which break the barriers between clothing and wearable art. Interior and sculptural textile pieces are a growing interest. Each piece is one-off in colour, often using piece-dying effects to achieve glowing colour. Some surfaces are manipulated during knitting to create surface texture and shape is knitted in, to give 3D form. Inspiration comes from natural and man-made surfaces and forms, like shells and leaves, skeletal structures from architecture and the body but also from the materials and techniques used, like short row shaping.
Melissa teaches textiles part time at Coleg Morgannwg and she is a Crafts Council selected maker.
