Monte Sirota was trained in sculpture and ceramics at Salford, Manchester and Liverpool Colleges of Art. He taught fine art and ceramics as a senior lecturer in several art schools including the University College of Wales, Newport.
Public commissions include work for the town centres of St Helens, Ashby, Wakefield and the Granada Centre. More recently he has made bronzes for the School of Medicine, Cardiff and the Morriston Hospital Trust, Swansea.
Monte has exhibited in New York, Barcelona, Liege, Bonn, Edinburgh, London Jakarta, Singapore, Brunei, Oxford, Cambridge, Inverness and Swansea.
His work explores the interface between sculpture and paintings within a craft tradition. The imagery of sea and clouds, the contrasting mood of light and shade and the flashes of brilliant sunlight pays homage to the paintings of Turner. It also alludes to the faded glory of Venice and his personal involvement and love of sailing and music.
