My work reflects aspects of an abiding interest in historical and contemporary textiles, one that is combined with a fascination for the symbolism of remembrance and affection. Memory is a potent theme and I return time and again to icons associated with love, mourning and commemoration. In particular the universally recognised heart motif is repeatedly worked in ever changing ways.
Hand stitch is a feature of my work in which I use a range of both traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques for my framed panels. My current work is best described as mixed media, incorporating not only fabric and thread but also hand made paper, beads and found objects.
A recent addition to my repertoire is a range of exquisitely decorated heart shaped pin cushions. Beaded pin cushions were traditionally presented to loved ones or to new mothers and mine are designed as gifts to commemorate births, weddings or other special occasions. Each one is unique, incorporating exotic or vintage fabrics.
