About EMILY SKINNER
A Textile Design graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design, UAL in 2008, Emily Skinner relocated from Central London to Pembrokeshire in the spring of 2009 where she has made full use of all the area has to offer in developing and nurturing her practise. In 2014 Emily founded the company Evan James Design, launching with a hand-silk screen printed interiors collection. The development and exploration of colour through print and dye plays a key role within her work, often in combination with intricate and innovative embroidery techniques. These qualities gained her the honour of being awarded second prize in the international Hand and Lock embroidery competition 2011. A key ideal is not only to create beautifully designed and constructed textiles but also to provide a personal response. Drawing upon the latest technologies within printing ink the pieces have become interactive with their environment; whether it be releasing a rose scent as a cushion is leant against or softly glowing as daylight fades. The emphasis is on added functionality through interaction.
