About
I work mostly with metal and like to incorporate different materials with it such as leather, wood, glass and mosaic as well as mixing different types of metal together such as stainless steel, mild steel and various gold leaf metals.I studied Fine Art “Sculpture” and so I approach my work from a very sculptural point of view. I am influenced from all that is around me in nature and from my Celtic roots as well as from metal sculptors like Julio Gonzalez and Chillida and blacksmiths from Eastern Europe such as Alfred Haberman and Paul Zimmerman.
The objects I make are made using traditional methods of construction. Everything is heated in the forge and then hammered on the anvil, trying to stay true to the material and the craft but at the same tine introducing a contemporary feel to the piece, often allowing the construction methods to become integral in the design.
Gideon designed and made the recently announced 'St David Awards' which will recognise the achievements of people from all walks of life who do inspiring and exceptional work.
