ADAM RAE - GWLANA

Textile Designer / Dylunydd Tecstil

Mandy Nash
Adam is a knitwear designer and maker, based in the temperate rainforest of Ceredigion, west Wales.

His sustainable knitwear is heavily inspired by the extensive heritage of textiles in Wales, with designs influenced by traditional quilting motifs, weaving patterns and forms found in his local woodlands and the Cambrian mountains. The colour palettes he uses are inspired by what he sees around him, from forest ferns and hillside bracken, to mountain lakes and rock formations, changing with the seasons.

All his garments are made on a vintage knitting machine and finished by hand, in his solar powered workspace. All the yarn he uses is 100% wool made in the UK and he increasingly uses organic yarn from Welsh flocks, spun in the new generation of Welsh woollen mills and sometimes dyed using natural dyes grown at home. Producing garments that are beautiful, very low impact, long lasting and unmistakably Welsh, is the foundation of his ethos as a maker.

Mae Adam yn ddylunydd a gwneuthurwr dillad gan wau defnyddiau, wedi'i leoli yng nghoedwig law dymherus Ceredigion, gorllewin Cymru.

Mae ei ddillad gwau cynaliadwy wedi'u hysbrydoli'n drwm gan dreftadaeth helaeth tecstilau yng Nghymru, gyda dyluniadau wedi'u dylanwadu gan fotiffau cwiltio traddodiadol, patrymau gwehyddu a ffurfiau a geir yn ei goetiroedd lleol a mynyddoedd Cambria. Mae'r paletau lliw y mae'n eu defnyddio wedi'u hysbrydoli gan yr hyn y mae'n ei weld o'i gwmpas, o redyn coedwig a rhedyn bryniau, i lynnoedd mynydd a ffurfiannau creigiau, yn newid gyda'r tymhorau.

Mae ei holl ddillad wedi'u gwneud ar beiriant gwau hen ffasiwn ac wedi'u gorffen â llaw, yn ei weithle sy'n cael ei bweru gan yr haul. Mae'r holl edafedd y mae'n ei ddefnyddio yn wlân pur wedi'i wneud yn y DU ac mae'n defnyddio edafedd organig o ddiadelloedd Cymreig yn gynyddol, wedi'i nyddu yn y genhedlaeth newydd o felinau gwlân Cymru ac weithiau'n cael ei liwio gan ddefnyddio llifynnau naturiol a dyfir gartref. Cynhyrchu dillad sy'n brydferth, effaith isel iawn, yn para'n hir ac yn ddiamheuol Gymreig, yw sylfaen ei ethos fel gwneuthurwr.
