LARISSA GUIDA LOCK

ceramicist / Gweuthurwr Cerameg

Mandy Nash
Originally from Brazil but settled in Wales, Larissa Guida Lock is an emerging artist working with the concepts of belonging and misplacement. She is interested in the liminality of places and believes that landscape can bring us a sense of belonging.

The contrasting feeling of being in-between environments intrigues her and she is constantly drawn to the similarities she can encounter in different spaces. Sometimes geographical structures, the colours, or textures of a place resemble each other, although in different corners of the world. Larissa sees them as points of intersection which fuel and inspire her creative practice.

She perceives her practice as a form of three-dimensional drawing. Larissa creates complex amorphous forms that reflect her interpretations of different landscapes she visited. Sometimes they take a sculptural form and other times they become vessels. They speak of our longing for a sense of place and the desire to connect with nature.

Larissa works with the natural qualities and colours of fired clays. Their earthiness enhances the
sense of land and place, alluding to natural formations we can encounter in different environments.

//
Yn wreiddiol o Frasil ond wedi ymgartrefu yng Nghymru, mae Larissa Guida Lock yn artist sy'n gweithio gyda chysyniadau perthyn a chamleoli. Mae hi'n ymddiddori yn ymyloldeb lleoedd ac yn credu y gall tirwedd roi ymdeimlad o berthyn i ni.

Mae'r teimlad cyferbyniol o fod rhwng amgylcheddau yn ei chyfareddu ac mae hi'n cael ei denu'n gyson at y tebygrwydd y gall ddod ar ei draws mewn gwahanol fannau. Weithiau mae strwythurau daearyddol, lliwiau, neu weadau lle yn debyg i'w gilydd, er eu bod mewn gwahanol gorneli o'r byd. Mae Larissa yn eu gweld fel pwyntiau croestoriad sy'n tanio ac yn ysbrydoli ei hymarfer creadigol.

Mae hi'n gweld ei hymarfer fel math o luniadu tri dimensiwn. Mae Larissa yn creu ffurfiau amorffaidd cymhleth sy'n adlewyrchu ei dehongliadau o wahanol dirweddau y bu'n ymweld â nhw. Weithiau maent yn cymryd ffurf gerfluniol ac ar adegau eraill maent yn dod yn llestri. Maent yn sôn am ein hiraeth am ymdeimlad o le a'r awydd i gysylltu â natur.

Mae Larissa yn gweithio gyda rhinweddau naturiol a lliwiau clai wedi'u llosgi. Mae eu daearoldeb yn gwella'r ymdeimlad o dir a lle, gan gyfeirio at ffurfiannau naturiol y gallwn ddod ar eu traws mewn gwahanol amgylcheddau.
