MEET OUR MAKERS

MARTIN HARVEY

Furniture Maker / Gwneuthurwr Celfi

Martin Harvey is a designer maker based in Monmouthshire - South Wales. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1997, he has accrued over 20 years experience within the bespoke furniture industry both in the UK and overseas.  Working primarily in wood, he produces hand crafted home wares both speculatively and to commission alongside freelancing as a designer to third party creatives. His work employs a combination of traditional and contemporary methods of construction with the aim to create practical, well resolved products that have aesthetic appeal.

Having initially studied product design, Martin enjoys the process of problem solving. Not only figuring out the techniques that are needed to take his ideas from the page into production but also the challenge of designing something individual to meet a specific need. Whilst a keen interest in the arts and crafts movement is often evident in his work, there are many other influences. He believes it is prudent to keep an open mind in the quest to create interest and originality. Martin finds inspiration working with patterns and texture, often introduced as decorative elements within his work.
//
Gwneuthurwr dyluniwr yw Martin Harvey o Sir Fynwy - De Cymru. Gan raddio o'r Coleg Celf Frenhinol ym 1997, mae wedi cronni dros 20 mlynedd o brofiad yn y diwydiant dodrefn pwrpasol yn y DU a thramor. Gan weithio'n bennaf mewn pren, mae'n cynhyrchu nwyddau cartref wedi'u crefftio â llaw yn hapfasnachol ac i gomisiynu ochr yn ochr â llawrydd fel dylunydd i bobl greadigol trydydd parti. Mae ei waith yn gyfuniad o ddulliau adeiladu traddodiadol a chyfoes gyda'r nod o greu cynhyrchion ymarferol, wedi'u dylunio’n dda ac sy'n apelio yn esthetig.

Ar ôl astudio dyluniad cynnyrch, mae Martin yn mwynhau'r broses o ddatrys problemau. Nid yn unig cyfrifo'r technegau sydd eu hangen i fynd â'i syniadau o'r dudalen i mewn i gynhyrchu ond hefyd yr her o ddylunio rhywbeth unigol i ddiwallu angen penodol. Er bod diddordeb brwd yn y mudiad celf a chrefft yn aml yn amlwg yn ei waith, mae yna lawer o ddylanwadau eraill. Mae'n credu ei bod yn ddoeth cadw meddwl agored wrth geisio creu diddordeb a gwreiddioldeb. Mae Martin yn cael ysbrydoliaeth wrth weithio â phatrymau a gwead, a gyflwynir yn aml fel elfennau addurniadol yn ei waith.
