11th April - 7th June 2026
In 2025, Ruth Thomas began a series of 50 new original (hand-made) prints on the theme of the Clwydian Range, looking at the flora and fauna that inhabit the hills and aspects of the landscape itself. As she is now approaching the halfway point of her series, it seemed a good time to exhibit work completed so far.
Ruth’s family home is on the border of the Clwydian Range National Landscape and she therefore sees the hills from many different angles, in various weather conditions, and at different times of year. For those not familiar with the area, it is a striking chain of hills in North East Wales with Offa’s Dyke footpath running its length and the remains of important Iron Age hill forts on a number of the hilltops. Ruth says she has walked the area many times, but there are still hundreds of footpaths to explore and much to learn.
Each print is created in a small edition or series of 10 and a variety of printmaking techniques are used. Ruth often incorporates impressions of natural objects such as feathers, bracken and dried seed/flower heads into the work. The prints are all the same size, and while they are individual pieces, they will also form a large series that together will provide a printmaker’s view of the Clwydian hills.
