The influence for my work is unveiling the essence of Pembrokeshire’s coastal strata, nestled in the
enchanting landscapes of beautiful Pembrokeshire. My textile work seeks to capture the essence of the ever-changing cliff strata that grace this coastal haven. The cliffs along this rugged coastline are more than geological formations, they are living narratives, storytellers of time, and nature’s perpetual dance. Their brooding and awe-inspiring presence has become my muse, guiding me to witness the subtle nuances of their transformation through the seasons. I am attuned to the layers of time etched in the rocks and the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tide providing a constant source of inspiration.

In my artistic process, I meticulously observe and document the colour and texture of these cliffs, capturing their evocative beauty through sketches and many photographs taken across the changing seasons. Drawing from this rich visual tapestry, I delve into the intricate world of hand-dyed fabric and thread, engaging in a dance of experimentation with fabric manipulation, machine, and hand embroidery. The slow and repetitive nature of hand stitching becomes a meditative journey for me, a therapeutic escape from the hustle and bustle of our contemporary world. Through this deliberate and mindful stitching, I seek to convey the profound depth and timelessness inherent in the coastal strata that inspire me.

My work is a statement of the flexibility of using stitch and fabric in unconventional ways, pushing the
boundaries to redefine their role in contemporary art. I aspire to position stitch not merely as a craft but as a serious and relevant artistic medium. As I bridge the gap between traditional forms and modern expression, I aim to elevate the perception of textile art, inviting viewers to appreciate its inherent beauty and complexity. Through my textile creations, I hope to inspire a renowned appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us, encouraging a contemplative engagement with the ever-changing tapestry of nature.

Y dylanwad ar gyfer fy ngwaith yw datgelu hanfod strata arfordirol Sir Benfro, wedi'u nythu yng nghanol tirweddau hudolus a hardd Sir Benfro. Mae fy ngwaith tecstilau yn ceisio dal hanfod strata clogwyni sy'n newid yn barhaus ac sy'n grasu'r hafan arfordirol hon. Mae'r clogwyni ar hyd yr arfordir garw hwn yn fwy na ffurfiannau daearegol, maent yn naratifau byw, yn adroddwyr amser, ac yn ddawns barhaus natur. Mae eu presenoldeb myfyriol ac ysbrydoledig wedi dod yn awen i mi, gan fy arwain i weld naws cynnil eu trawsnewidiad trwy'r tymhorau. Rwy'n ymwybodol o'r haenau o amser sydd wedi'u hysgythru yn y creigiau a thrai a llif rhythmig y llanw sy'n darparu ffynhonnell gyson o ysbrydoliaeth.

Yn fy mhroses artistig, rwy'n arsylwi ac yn dogfennu lliw a gwead y clogwyni hyn yn fanwl, gan ddal eu harddwch atgofus trwy frasluniau a llawer o ffotograffau a dynnwyd ar draws y tymhorau newidiol. Gan dynnu o'r tapestri gweledol cyfoethog hwn, rwy'n ymchwilio i fyd cymhleth ffabrig ac edau wedi'u lliwio â llaw, gan ymgysylltu mewn dawns o arbrofi gyda thrin ffabrig, peiriant, a brodwaith â llaw. Mae natur araf ac ailadroddus gwnïo â llaw yn dod yn daith fyfyriol i mi, yn ddihangfa therapiwtig o fwrlwm a phrysurdeb ein byd cyfoes. Trwy'r gwnïo bwriadol ac ystyriol hwn, rwy'n ceisio cyfleu'r dyfnder a'r amseroldeb sy'n gynhenid yn yr haenau arfordirol sy'n fy ysbrydoli.

Mae fy ngwaith yn ddatganiad o hyblygrwydd defnyddio pwyth a ffabrig mewn ffyrdd anghonfensiynol, gan wthio'r ffiniau i ailddiffinio eu rôl mewn celf gyfoes. Rwy'n anelu at osod pwyth nid yn unig fel crefft ond fel cyfrwng artistig difrifol a pherthnasol. Wrth i mi bontio'r bwlch rhwng ffurfiau traddodiadol a mynegiant modern, fy nod yw codi'r canfyddiad o gelf tecstilau, gan wahodd gwylwyr i werthfawrogi ei harddwch a'i gymhlethdod cynhenid. Trwy fy nghreadigaethau tecstilau, rwy'n gobeithio ysbrydoli gwerthfawrogiad enwog o'r harddwch sy'n ein hamgylchynu, gan annog ymgysylltiad myfyriol â thapestri natur sy'n newid yn barhaus.
