Open Spine with Decorative Stitch Bookbinding
14th April 2019 10.30-16.30
A chance to create a beautiful A5 (portrait format) book with hardback covers and a decorative stitched spine.
We’ll be making a slection of good quality papers, with a mixture of white and colours, and then stitching the open spine with a combination of coloured tapes and threads.
Bookbinder Carole King has been working using paint and printmaking with stitch, collage and combinations of techniques to convey her ideas. Using up trial prints and samples inspired some of her first books, quickly followed by prints especially designed to cover books and later ‘artists books’ constructed around a theme. From her rural stone barn studio she works through a wide variety of media including painting, printmaking and bookbinding. Her artists’ books include tunnel books, coptic bound and casebound hardbacks.
