TEIFI WOODWORKER

Furniture Maker / Gwneuthurwr Celfi

Picture
In his West Wales workshop, John Pearce crafts furniture inspired by country and vernacular styles. His approach is rooted in tradition, using time-honoured techniques and hand tools to create contemporary pieces that highlight the natural beauty of the timber. Each piece is designed to become a future heirloom, showcasing John’s quality and craftsmanship.

Committed to sustainability, John sources timber from British suppliers who practice environmental responsibility, ensuring each piece is crafted from sustainably sourced materials. He prides himself on using traditional hand-cut joints and hand-finishing techniques, resulting in a tactile finish that invites touch. These methods enhance durability and add unique character to each piece.

Whenever possible, John uses local timber with unique character and grain patterns, allowing the design process to be influenced by the timber’s size and grain. This ensures each piece is unique, celebrating natural wood variations for added depth and interest.

In addition to larger furniture like tables, chairs, and cabinets, John offers smaller items such as hand-carved coat racks, chopping and serving boards, wooden vases, and candle holders. Some items undergo special burning and ebonising techniques, resulting in a striking black colour and added texture, enhancing their aesthetic appeal and modernity.
