Celebrating Makers Guild Wales Community Craft Engagement Project

Grant funding awarded in 2025 by the Arts Council of Wales has enabled the Makers Guild Wales to continue with its craft community engagement work, reaching out to local residents and providing access to hands-on craft activities.
Slow Stitch led by artist Gail Howard has taken place on Tuesday mornings enabling participants to learn and develop hand and machine sewing skills to create some fabulous items including textile wall hangings, jewellery pouches and purses, all made using recycled fabrics. We were delighted to partner with Disability Arts Cymru in reaching out to the public. Gail is Co-Director of PAM Common Art Collective.
Clay & Paint led by artist Thomasin Toohie has taken place over ten Wednesday mornings, enabling participants to learn about colour mixing, drawing & painting techniques. They also learnt clay hand building, particularly slab building, to create individual sculptural and low relief forms that they could later apply their colour and painting knowledge to using coloured slips and glaze. This project has also been in partnership with Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting (COWCP).
