ALAN PERRY

ARTIST BLACKSMITH

Mandy Nash
Traditional techniques, contemporary design.
I make a range of contemporary design forged items that bring a timeless elegance to the interior living space. The unique designs and traditional hot forged techniques are equally pleasing within any age of building and decorative style. I enjoy the process of heating the uniform stock metal, either new or reclaimed industrial steel, until it reaches a malleable state and then using hammer blows to transform it. Wherever possible I use traditional, ancient techniques in my work, although my forge blower is electric, not hand or foot pumped bellows, and my power hammer also runs on electric, not water or steam power as was once the case. I am currently enjoying exploring the addition of colour onto the textured metal using heat from the forge to achieve this. My designs continually evolve and range in style from organic to stark simplicity
//
Technegau traddodiadol, dyluniad cyfoes.
Rwy'n creu nifer o eitemau wedi’u ffugio gan ddefnyddio dyluniad cyfoes sy'n dod â cheinder bythol i'r gofod byw mewn cartref. Mae dyluniadau unigryw a thechnegau ffugio poeth traddodiadol yr un mor effeithiol mewn adeilad o unrhyw arddull neu oedran. Rwy'n mwynhau'r broses o wresogi’r stoc metel unffurf, gan ddefnyddio naill ai dur newydd neu ddur diwydiannol a adenillwyd, hyd nes y bydd yn cyrraedd cyflwr hydrin ac yna defnyddio'r ergydion morthwyl i’w trawsnewid. Lle bo'n bosibl rwy'n defnyddio technegau traddodiadol, hynafol yn fy ngwaith, er bod fy chwythwr efail yn drydanol, nid ydwyf yn defnyddio megin llaw neu droed, ac mae fy morthwyl pŵer hefyd yn drydanol, nid dŵr neu pŵer stêm fel yr oedd yn yr hen amser. Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n mwynhau archwilio ychwanegu lliw ar y metel gweadog gan ddefnyddio gwres o'r efail er mwyn cyflawni’r effaith yma. Mae fy nyluniadau yn esblygu yn barhaus ac yn amrywio o ran arddull o organig i symlrwydd llwyr.
