ALISON TAYLOR

 textile artist / Artist tecstil

Mandy Nash
Alison designs and hand makes luxury knitwear in Wales on domestic knitting machines.
Colour, pattern, and texture are fundamental to her design process and combining old school craftmanship and contemporary design she aims to create statement pieces that have a timeless quality.
Garments and accessories can be worn as stand-alone statement pieces or can be mixed to create cacophony of pattern overload. From sourcing materials and production methods to packaging and aftercare Alison is pro-actively committed to limiting the carbon footprint and impact on the environment.
Using soft to handle, sustainable yarns, she knits her intricate patterns in luxurious merino lambswool with touches of cashmere and alpaca. Using fully fashioned knitting techniques she avoids waste and with care, the knitwear should last beyond the seasonal fashion lifecycle. Instructions on mending will enhance the garment and prolong its wear.
During a recent collaboration between Welsh and Finnish textile makers Alison was struck by the similarities between traditional Nordic and Celtic patterns and images and so her work is influenced and inspired by the rich heritage of her Welsh culture and Scandinavian design.

Mae Alison yn dylunio ac yn gwneud gweuwaith moethus yng Nghymru ar beiriannau gwau domestig. Mae lliw, patrwm a gwead yn sylfaenol i'w phroses ddylunio ac wrth gyfuno crefftwaith hen ysgol a dylunio cyfoes mae'n anelu at greu darnau datganiad sydd o ansawdd bythol.
Gellir gwisgo dillad ac ategolion fel darnau annibynnol neu gellir eu cymysgu i greu af lafaredd o orlwytho patrwm.
O gyrchu deunyddiau a dulliau cynhyrchu i becynnu ac ôl-ofal mae Alison wedi ymrwymo'n rhagweithiol i gyfyngu ar yr ôl troed carbon a'r effaith ar yr amgylchedd.
Gan ddefnyddio edafedd cynaliadwy, meddal i'w drin, mae'n gwau ei phatrymau cywrain mewn gwlân merino moethus gyda chyffyrddiadau o gashmir ac alpaca. Gan ddefnyddio technegau gwau cwbl ffasiwn mae'n osgoi gwastraff a chyda gofal, dylai'r gweuwaith bara y tu hwnt i gylch bywyd ffasiwn y tymor. Bydd cyfarwyddiadau ar drwsio yn harddu’r dilledyn ac yn ymestyn ei draul.
Yn ystod cydweithrediad diweddar rhwng gwneuthurwyr tecstilau o Gymru a’r Ffindir trawyd Alison gan y tebygrwydd rhwng patrymau a delweddau traddodiadol Nordig a Cheltaidd ac felly mae ei gwaith yn cael ei ddylanwadu a’i ysbrydoli gan dreftadaeth gyfoethog ei diwylliant Cymreig a chynlluniau Llychlyn.
