ANNE WOODS

Textile Artist / Artist Tecstil

Mandy Nash
Anne is an honorary member of the Makers Guild in Wales.
My original training as a designer of printed textiles left me with an ingrained feeling for pattern, colour, texture and composition, which has been of great benefit during a long career in textile art. I’ve experimented with many ways of using fabrics, papers and stitchery but for several years my work has focused on conveying the essence of Wales - its land and sea - in a form of simplified realism and, from time to time, details of sand, sea and rocks in a more abstract way.
Each piece of work is based on a drawing made on the spot. To produce the background shapes and colour effects I use fabrics and papers that I have previously painted and worked in various ways. Sometimes layers of transparent fabric are added for tone and contrast. Both the papers and fabrics may have gone through a number of other processes to produce additional textural effects - they may have been torn, creased, crumpled, pleated - whatever is necessary to produce the required effect. Finally the detail is added by drawing with free machine stitchery which occasionally may be embellished with hand stitchery to create added texture.
Through these pieces I hope to convey my continuing delight in the beauty of this country and to share it with others.

Mae fy hyfforddiant gwreiddiol fel dylunydd tecstilau printiedig fy ngadael gyda teimlad cynhenid ar gyfer patrwm, lliw, gwead a chyfansoddiad, sydd wedi bod o fudd mawr yn ystod gyrfa hir mewn tecstilau. Rwyf wedi arbrofi gyda nifer o ffyrdd o ddefnyddio ffabrigau, papurau a phwythwaith .Ers sawl blwyddyn rwyf i wedi canolbwyntio ar gyfleu hanfod Cymru, ei dir a’i fôr, mewn ffurf realaeth syml, ac o bryd i’w gilydd, manylion tywod, y môr a chreigiau mewn ffordd mwy haniaethol.
Mae pob darn o waith yn seiliedig ar ddarlun wedi ei wneud yn y safle, i gynhyrchu’r siapiau cefndir a effaith y lliwiau. Rwy’n defnyddio ffabrigau a phapurau yr wyf i wedi eu peintio ac wedi gweithio mewn iddynt mewn gwahanol ffyrdd yn flaenorol. Weithiau defnyddiaf haenau o ffabrig tryloyw a’i hychwanegu ar gyfer tôn a chyferbyniad. Mae’r papurau a’r ffabrigau yn mynd drwy nifer o brosesau eraill i gynhyrchu effeithiau gwaedol ychwanegol, er enghraifft rhwygo, crychu neu blethu, beth bynnag sy’n angenrheidiol i gynhyrchu’r effaith a ddymunir. Yn olaf, mae’r manylion yn cael ei hychwanegu drwy dynnu llun gyda peiriant pwytho gan weithiau ychwanegu pwytho â llaw.
Gobeithiaf yn y darnau i gyfleu fy ymhyfrydu parhaus am harddwch y wlad hon, ac hoffwn ei rannu ag eraill.
