MEET OUR MAKERS
The richness of the North Wales landscape has never failed to inspire David Frith - it is where he started his workshop with his wife Margaret some forty years ago.
His work explores the thrown form - searching for that essence - a quality that survives time and where the traditional and contemporary meet. Pieces are individual, often on a large scale and include platters, bottles, ginger jars, store jars, pressed and extruded dishes. He likes flat surfaces which enhance innovative decorative techniques. He uses celadons, ashes and iron rich glazes combined with wax motifs, heavy overglazes and trailed pigments with the added gift of wood firing. David hopes that the work shows an individuality and maturity that comes from experience, self-confidence and personal conviction about the current role of a craftsman and potter. // Mae cyfoeth tirwedd Gogledd Cymru wedi cael dylanwad mawr ar David Frith, fe sefydlwyd ei weithdy yno gyda'i wraig Margaret dros ddeugain mlynedd yn ôl. Mae ei waith yn archwilio taflu ar yr olwyn - gan chwilio am greu gwaith sy’n para prawf amser, ble mae traddodiad a gwaith cyfoes yn cwrdd. Mae pob darn yn unigol ac, ar y cyfan ar raddfa fawr. Maent yn cynnwys platiau, poteli, jariau sinsir, jariau storio a llestri wedi eu gwasgu a’i allwthio. Mae'n hoffi arwynebau gwastad sy'n gwella technegau addurniadol arloesol. Mae'n defnyddio gwahanol wydreddau gyda motiff cwyr a lliwiau mewn taniadau pren yn yr odyn. Mae David yn gobeithio bod ei waith yn dangos unigoliaeth ac aeddfedrwydd a ddaw o brofiad, hunanhyder ac argyhoeddiad personol am rôl bresennol crefftwr a chrochenydd. |
