JODIE HOOK

jeweller / gemydd

Mandy Nash
After graduating from a Jewellery and Silversmithing BA (Hons) Degree at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham in 2000 I went to work for fashion jewellery designer Scott Wilson in London for seven years. Here I created collections for trade shows including London Fashion Week and one off commission pieces for major fashion houses and celebrities. In the last 9 years I have been establishing myself within galleries and shops throughout the UK and exhibiting at selected events.
My signature range entitled The Ribbon Collection is inspired by the moment you unravel a roll of satin ribbon, it twists and loops and as you lift it a knot forms. I manipulate the metal so it sits comfortably around the hand or body. Graphic clean lines feature strongly in my work, whilst at the same time being fashionable and comfortable to wear. My influences include origami and fabric manipulation. Recently I have developed a selection of pieces with semi precious stones and new surface decoration. Design is an intrinsic part of my everyday life and is reflected in every aspect of my work. Ultimately, I seek to create wearable jewellery that makes a statement on and off the body.

Ar ôl graddio â gradd BA anrhydedd mewn Gemwaith a Gofaint Arian o Ysgol Gemwaith Birmingham yn 2000, fe weithiais i'r dylunydd ffasiwn Scott Wilson yn Llundain am saith mlynedd. Fe wnes i greu casgliadau ar gyfer sioeau masnach gan gynnwys Wythnos Ffasiwn Lundain ac eitemau comisiwn i dai ffasiwn a phobl enwog. Yn ystod y 9 mlynedd diwethaf rwyf wedi bod yn sefydlu fy hun mewn orielau a siopau ledled y DU ac yn arddangos mewn gwahanol ddigwyddiadau.
Enw fy nghasgliad yw’r Casgliad Rhuban, sy’n cael ei ysbrydoli gan y foment y byddwch yn datgymalu rhôl o ruban satin, mae'n troelli ac yn tyfu wrth i gwlwm ffurfio. Rwy'n trin y metel fel eu bod yn eistedd yn gyfforddus o gwmpas y llaw neu'r corff. Mae llinellau graffig yn nodwedd gref o fy ngwaith, gan fod yn ffasiynol ac yn gyfforddus i'w wisgo. Mae fy mhrif ddylanwadau'n cynnwys origami a cherfluno ffabrig. Yn ddiweddar, rydw i wedi datblygu detholiad o ddarnau gyda cherrig lled werthfawr a’u haddurno ag arwyneb newydd.
Mae dylunio yn rhan annatod o fy mywyd ac fe'i hadlewyrchir ym mhob agwedd o fy ngwaith. Yn y bôn, rwy’n ceisio creu gemwaith sy’n hawdd i’w wisgo ac sy’n ddeniadol i’r llygad.
