MEET OUR MAKERS

JOHN PARKINSON

Furniture Maker / Gwneuthurwr Celfi

My work is rooted in the Shaker, Arts and Crafts and American Craftsman traditions. The proponents of these styles frequently used exposed joints which united aesthetic beauty and craftsmanship into an absolutely satisfying wholeness. I use familiar hardwoods such as oak, ash, cherry and maple. I seek to emulate the successes of the past and create furniture with clean and graceful lines and a timeless appeal. I endeavour to engage the viewer by making pieces which are attractive yet functional, whose construction and worked edges invite touch, and which are characterful and well made.
//
Mae fy ngwaith yn gwreiddio o draddodiadau Siglwyr, Celf a Chrefft a Chrefftwyr Americanaidd. Roedd y crefftwyr hyn yn defnyddio cymalau agored oedd yn uno harddwch esthetig a chrefftwaith i mewn i gyfanwaith cyflawn. Rwy’n defnyddio coed caled cyfarwydd megis derw, ynn, ceirios a masarn. Rwy’n ceisio efelychu llwyddiannau'r gorffennol a chreu dodrefn gyda llinellau glân a gosgeiddig ac apêl fythol. Rwyf yn ymdrechu i ymgysylltu â’r gwyliwr drwy greu darnau sy’n ddeniadol ac eto’n swyddogaethol. Mae adeiladu’r darn yn gwahodd y gwyliwr i’w gyffwrdd, yn llawn cymeriad ac wedi ei gynllunio yn fedrus.
