JON BULL

ceramicist  / Gwneuthurwr Cerameg

Mandy Nash
My work has evolved several times in my 20 years with clay but the one constant has always been the wheel. There is something about throwing that feels honest and exposed and it’s this that makes me strive for quality in design and craftsmanship.

My current work is a mixture of control and precision with the natural and organic. The forms I choose are simple in silhouette but meticulously finished with a flawless surface and constant curve. I relinquish some of the control in the glazing process with the use of Lava Glazes; this style of glazing can be somewhat unpredictable but exciting.

I am drawn towards the more challenging forms and techniques and am always pushing my own boundaries and capabilities, as my skills improve my work changes and develops.

Mae fy ngwaith wedi esblygu sawl gwaith ers gweithio â chlai am 20 mlynedd, ond un dechneg gyson rwyf wedi defnyddio yw’r olwyn. Mae rhywbeth am daflu ar yr olwyn sy'n teimlo'n onest ac yn agored ac mae'n fy ngorfodi i i ddylunio a chreu crefftwaith o safon.

Mae fy ngwaith presennol yn gymysgedd o reolaeth a manyldeb gyda'r naturiol a’r organig. Mae'r ffurflenni a ddewisaf â silwetau syml ond wedi eu creu yn ofalus gydag arwyneb di-dor a chromlin gyson. Rwy'n gadael rhywfaint o reolaeth yn y broses wydro gyda'r defnydd o wydrau lafa; Gall yr arddull wydro yma fod yn anrhagweladwy ond yn gyffrous.

Rwy’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan ffurfiau â thechnegau mwy heriol, ac rwyf bob amser yn gwthio fy ffiniau a'n galluoedd fy hun, wrth i fy sgiliau wella mae fy ngwaith yn newid ac yn datblygu.
