MEET OUR MAKERS
The ceramics of Kirsti Hannah Brown derive their inspiration from the westerly coastal regions of Wales and Scotland.
The process begins with sketches of the sea and cliff formations as well as stones and pebbles from the beaches visited. Ideas are developed back in the studio through drawing and experimenting with various clays and slips to create a sense of the sea and shoreline. The most recent body of work has been developed from drawings of ancient objects, tools and rock carvings found within the landscape of the coastal regions of Wales and Scotland. Resulting work includes hand-held artefacts with markings - rounded like pebbles and vases with carved images. 'I have deliberately left my fingerprints on the small glazed forms.' Kirsti's first workshop was set up in 1996 in Chester after graduating in 1993 from the BA Hons Crafts course at Crewe and Alsager College. Her work has been displayed in galleries across the UK from the Isles of Scilly to the Shetland Isles. She now works from her home in North Wales. // Mae cerameg Kirsti Hannah Brown wedi cael eu hysbrydoli o ranbarthau arfordirol gorllewin Cymru a’r Alban. Datblygwyd y casgliad o waith diweddaraf o ddarluniau o wrthrychau hynafol, offer a cherfiadau creigiau a ddarganfuwyd o fewn tirwedd rhanbarthau arfordirol Cymru a’r Alban. Mae’r gwaith sy’n deillio o hyn yn cynnwys arteffactau â marciau llaw – sy’n grwn fel cerrig a fasau gyda delweddau cerfiedig.
