LYNDA SHELL

Leather bags / bagiau lledr

Mandy Nash
My work as a textile designer is very much an expression of my interest and passion for history. I am fascinated by the past and intrigued by how it often informs and influences the future. My current collection of bags and soft furnishings are all inspired by military history. The designs are developed from personal photographs of formal uniform, combat attire, armoury and medals won for bravery during the Zulu War and World Wars I & II. They are designed to celebrate the courage and bravery of soldiers at war. Thus these practical items transgress their ordinary function and bring meaning into our homes and everyday lives.

My aim is to produce unique sophisticated contemporary designs that demonstrate my ideas and concepts but at the same time display a strong visually aesthetic appeal with a high level of craftsmanship.

Mae fy ngwaith fel dylunydd tecstilau yn fynegiant o fy niddordeb a fy angerdd am hanes. Rwy’n rhyfeddu ar y gorffennol ac yn synnu ar ba mor aml mae’n dylanwadu ar y dyfodol. Mae fy ymchwil i hanes milwrol wedi cael dylanwad ar fy nghasgliad cyfoes o fagiau a dodrefn meddal. Mae’r dyluniadau yn cael eu datblygu o ffotograffau personol o wisg ffurfiol y rhyfel, arfogaeth a medalau a enillwyd am ddewrder yn ystod Rhyfel y Zulu a’r Rhyfeloedd Byd Cyntaf a’r Ail. Maent wedi eu cynllunio i ddathlu dewrder milwyr y rhyfel. Felly, mae’r eitemau defnyddiol hwn yn fwy gwerthfawr nag y byddent yn y gorffennol, ac yn dod ag ystyr newydd i'n cartrefi â'n bywydau bob dydd.

Fy mwriad yw creu cynlluniau unigryw sydd yn gyfoes, soffistigedig ac yn mynegi fy syniadau. Hoffwn ar yr un pryd, ddangos apêl esthetig gryf i'r gwaith gyda lefel uchel o grefftwaith proffesiynol.
