No Waste collection

My ‘No Waste’ collection of bags have been created using all the silkscreen printed off-cuts kept for many years from previous bag collections. I have never been able to throw away even the smallest of scraps believing that they would be useful one day.
In a world where sustainability and caring for the environment is at the forefront of our minds the idea of making something new and exciting out of what may otherwise be thrown away has been my driving challenge.
The inspiration for my final designs has come from my love of making quilts. I have a long-standing admiration of the quilts produced by the small rural African American community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, who become well known for their remarkable abstract quilts made from  work clothes remnants and scraps.
With their distinctive bold improvisational aesthetic in mind, each bag has been uniquely crafted using a carefully considered combination of patterns and colours but at the same time disregarding conventional quilt geometrics and allowing the material to influence the creative process.
Combined with a durable heavy weight lining and sturdy leather strap, I like to think my bags are not only a useful accessory, but make a striking & unique little piece of art to wear.

Casgliad Bagiau ‘Dim Gwastraff’
Mae fy nghasgliad bagiau ‘Dim Gwastraff’ wedi’i greu gan ddefnyddio’r holl doriadau printiedig sgrin sidan a gadwyd ers blynyddoedd lawer o gasgliadau bagiau blaenorol. Nid wyf erioed wedi gallu taflu hyd yn oed y sbarion lleiaf gan gredu y byddent yn ddefnyddiol un diwrnod.
Mewn byd lle mae cynaliadwyedd a gofalu am yr amgylchedd yn flaenllaw yn ein meddyliau, y syniad o wneud rhywbeth newydd a chyffrous o'r hyn a allai gael ei daflu fel arall yw fy her.
Mae'r ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer fy nyluniadau terfynol wedi dod o fy hoffter o wneud cwiltiau. Mae gen i hir-
edmygedd o’r cwiltiau a gynhyrchwyd gan y gymuned wledig Americanaidd Affricanaidd fach Gee’s Bend, Alabama, daethant yn adnabyddus am eu cwiltiau haniaethol rhyfeddol wedi’u gwneud o weddillion dillad gwaith a sbarion.
Gyda'u hesthetig byrfyfyr beiddgar nodedig mewn golwg, mae pob bag wedi'i saernïo'n unigryw gan gyfuno dyluniad a ystyriwyd yn ofalus o batrymau a lliwiau ond hefyd diystyru geometreg cwilt confensiynol a chaniatáu i'r deunydd ddylanwadu ar y broses greadigol.
Wedi'i gyfuno â leinin pwysau trwm gwydn a strap lledr cadarn, rwy'n hoffi meddwl bod fy magiau nid yn unig yn affeithiwr defnyddiol ond yn ddarnau bach trawiadol ac unigryw o gelf i'w wisgo.
