MAKERS IN FOCUS: ELUNED GLYN & MARIAN HAF
UNTIL 23 mAY 2021
We have a wonderful exhibition of work by two guild members as part of our Meet the Maker artist films project. Supported by ACW we have been able to commission Eluned Glyn and Marian Haf to create short films that give a peek at life behind their studio doors. They have generously shared with us their creative process, talking about the inspirations behind their work, how they plan, design and make as well as looking at their ideas for future development. You can see the films here and within the gallery alongside their exhibition.
We are in the process of commissioning further Meet the Maker films to bring to you a cross section of the craft disciplines within our guild membership.

Eluned Glyn:
I am inspired by the form of classic ceramic pieces from the 21st century. The modernist movement has been my point of reference. It is the marriage of form and function that intrigues me and the distortion of the domestic object which is familiar yet foreign in form. I break up and re-construct the pieces that I buy in charity shops. These pieces are then cast with earthenware slip and fired four times in the kiln to complete the body of work.
Rwyf yn cael fy ysbrydoli gyda furff clasurol darnau cerameg y ganrif 21. Mae symudiad modernaidd wedi bod yn bwynt cyfeirnod i mi. Mae’r cysylltiad o ffurf a swyddogaeth yn ddiddorol iawn i mi a hefyd afluniad pethau pob dydd sydd, ar yr un pryd, cyfarwydd ac yn estron. Rwyf yn torri ac ail-adeiladu darnau ail law. Wedyn, maent yn cael eu rhoi mewn slip priddlestri ac wedi’u rhoi pedair gwaith yn yr odyn i’w cyflawni.
Marian Haf:
Collagraph’s have become a firm favourite of mine as I feel a quality akin to charcoal drawing to it, a tactility, a freedom in the mark making by tearing the layers which result in beautiful tonal depths which are then punctuated with sharp lines and staccato dots. My recent prints which often consists of many smaller collagraph plates that make a compositional patchwork are laid intuitively, without overthinking, looking for that happy accident that is presented in the Reveal.
Mae colagraff wedi dod yn ffefryn mawr i mi gan fy mod yn teimlo ansawdd tebyg i dynnu darluniau siarcol, cyffyrddiad, rhyddid i wneud marciau trwy rwygo'r haenau sy'n arwain at ddyfnderoedd tonyddol hardd sydd wedyn yn cael eu pwysleisio â llinellau miniog a dotiau staccato. Mae fy mhrintiau diweddar, sydd yn aml yn cynnwys llawer o blatiau colagraff llai sy'n gwneud clytwaith cyfansoddol, yn cael eu gosod yn reddfol, heb feddwl, gan edrych am y ddamwain hapus honno a gyflwynir yn natguddiad y darn gorffenedig.
