MAKER IN FOCUS: RUTH HARRIES
NOCTURNE
8 OCTOBER - 6 NOVEMBER 2022
The celebration of process within stitch and thread have driven creative decision-making, engrossed with the materiality and practice of building. 2D Compositions are painterly, using collage and expressive hand stitch.
There are indeed seeds of thought and nurtured beginnings including the Nocturne or Lunar cycle. The circle of course represents wholeness, the self, eternity and timelessness. Working with black and white/cream, renders the work timeless and plays with the ethereal, balancing dark and light, soft and hard textures.
Sculptural, rhythmical compositions using hand knit and woven wire, found objects and cement are an expressive and playful progression from the restraints of the flat textile surface. The combination of building materials in small scale offer the opportunity to experience these compositions as if we ourselves have been shrunken and they scaled up as architectural adventures.
