MARALYN RAFORD

Jeweller / GEMYDD

About

Trained in Theatre Design and worked in Theatre as a Costume Designer and propmaker before becoming interested in Jewellery. Maralyn has worked with plastics and resins since her foundation year at Croydon Art College in 1968. To gain necessary silversmithing skills she did a course at Birmingham School of Jewellery.

“While continuing to experiment with acrylic in sheet and rod form, each piece being individually cut or turned on a lathe then finished by hand, I am still looking for new ways of introducing colour and texture. My pewter range has developed from an interest in incorporating more fluid textures into wearable, attractive pieces”.

Hyfforddodd Marilyn mewn Theatr Dylunio a gweithiodd yn y theatr fel Dylunydd Gwisgoedd a Gwneuthurwr Propiau cyn cael diddordeb mewn gemwaith. Mae wedi gweithio â phlastig a resin ers ei blwyddyn gyntaf yng Ngholeg Celf Croydon ym 1968. Er mwyn ennill sgiliau gofannu arian angenrheidiol fe ddilynodd gwrs Gofannu Arian yn Ysgol Gemwaith Birmingham.

‘Gan barhau i arbrofi gydag acrylic mewn ffurf gwialen a llenfetel, mae pob darn yn cael ei dorri neu ei droi yn unigol ar durn ac yna ei gorffen â llaw. Yr wyf i yn dal i chwilio am ffyrdd newydd o gyflwyno lliw a gwaed i’r darnau. Mae fy nghasgliad piwter wedi datblygu o ddiddordeb mewn ymgorffori gweadau mwy hylifol i ddarnau deniadol i'w gwisgo.’’
