MARIAN HAF

Print Maker / Gwneuthurwr Printiau

About

Mandy Nash
I’m a fine art painting graduate from the University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham in 2004, now settled back home in West Wales to raise my family. I first started printmaking in 2010 when I joined my local print group Printers in the Sticks, as my children are getting older I’m increasingly finding the time to develop my practice. My work which can be varied in subject matter often have a common narrative of nostalgia and melancholy, memories of fishing with my father and siblings, the discarded toys of my own children and the heritage and tradition of welsh quilt work.

Collagraph’s have become a firm favourite of mine as I feel a quality akin to charcoal drawing to it, a tactility, a freedom in the mark making by tearing the layers which result in beautiful tonal depths which are then punctuated with sharp lines and staccato dots. My recent prints which often consists of many smaller collagraph plates that make a compositional patchwork are laid intuitively, without overthinking, looking for that happy accident that is presented in the Reveal.

Rydw i wedi graddio mewn paentio celf gain o Brifysgol Swydd Gaerloyw, Cheltenham yn 2004, ac rwyf bellach wedi ymgartrefu yng Ngorllewin Cymru i fagu fy nheulu. Dechreuais wneud fy mhrintiau gyntaf yn 2010 pan ymunais â'm grŵp argraffu lleol ‘Printers in the Sticks’, gan fod fy mhlant yn mynd yn hŷn, rwy'n gynyddol yn dod o hyd i'r amser i ddatblygu fy ymarfer. Yn aml mae gan fy ngwaith yn amrywio mewn thema, ond naratif cyffredin i’r gwaith ydy hiraeth ac iselder ysbryd, atgofion o bysgota gyda fy nhad a'm brodyr a chwiorydd, y teganau a daflwyd gan fy mhlant fy hun a threftadaeth a thraddodiad gwaith cwiltiau Cymreig.

Mae colagraff wedi dod yn ffefryn mawr i mi gan fy mod yn teimlo ansawdd tebyg i dynnu darluniau siarcol, cyffyrddiad, rhyddid i wneud marciau trwy rwygo'r haenau sy'n arwain at ddyfnderoedd tonyddol hardd sydd wedyn yn cael eu pwysleisio â llinellau miniog a dotiau staccato. Mae fy mhrintiau diweddar, sydd yn aml yn cynnwys llawer o blatiau colagraff llai sy'n gwneud clytwaith cyfansoddol, yn cael eu gosod yn reddfol, heb feddwl, gan edrych am y ddamwain hapus honno a gyflwynir yn natguddiad y darn gorffenedig.
