MICHAEL FLYNN: THEMES & FOCUSSES
6 July - 18 august 2019
The Makers Guild Wales celebrates the work of Cardiff based sculptor Michael Flynn with this rare opportunity to see and buy his contemporary figurative ceramics in the UK. Selected pieces from different series made over the past ten to fifteen years, show us a glimpse into the myriad of narrative beginnings of his sculpture, whether from myths, beliefs, the divine world, fairy tales or more personal introspection. Flynn's figures exude energy; figures caught mid-action, entwined, entangling, lifting one another - suggestions of acrobats, lovers, actors, dancers.
Flynn, born in 1947 initially studied painting at Birmingham College of Arts in the mid '60's. Drawing and painting continue to be integral to his creative process. In 1978 he completed a BA Hons degree in ceramics at Cardiff School of Art where his passion for figurative work took its new course through clay. Flynn has work in private and public art collections throughout the world; regularly teaching and exhibiting internationally. Current and upcoming exhibitions abroad showing Flynn's work include All that Gold does Glitter, 2019 macau Sands Exhibition, Macau , China and Kunstkamer, Galerie Terra, Delft, Netherlands.
