SIMON SHARP

Ceramicist/Gwneuthyrwr Cerameg

Picture
 Simon studied at Grimsby School of Art and was fortunate to further his studies at Harrow College of Art in the studio pottery department. There he found his pathway into traditional methods of high-fired thrown and slipped earthenware.
Simon describes himself as a painter in clay. He uses the blank form and shape of the ware as a canvas to paint on. Having worked with clay for 45 years, part of that time as a production thrower in a studio producing domestic ware, he now focuses on his own work. His abstract pattern making on hand thrown earthenware use distinctive lines and shapes which come together to create unique and individual contemporary pieces.
//
Astudiodd Simon yn Ysgol Gelf Grimsby a bu'n ffodus i ddatblygu ei astudiaethau yng Ngholeg Celf Harrow yn yr adran grochenwaith stiwdio. Yno daeth o hyd i'w lwybr i ddulliau traddodiadol o lestri pridd wedi'u taflu a'u creu mewn slip.
Disgrifia Simon ei hun fel peintiwr mewn clai. Mae'n defnyddio ffurf wag a siâp y nwyddau fel cynfas i beintio arno. Ar ôl gweithio gyda chlai am 45 mlynedd, roedd rhan o’r amser hwnnw fel taflwr cynhyrchu mewn stiwdio yn cynhyrchu nwyddau domestig, mae bellach yn canolbwyntio ar ei waith ei hun. Mae ei batrwm haniaethol o wneud llestri pridd wedi’i daflu â llaw yn defnyddio llinellau a siapiau nodedig sy’n dod at ei gilydd i greu darnau cyfoes unigryw ac unigol.
