MEET OUR MAKERS

SPENCER PENN

ceramicist  / Gwneuthurwr Cerameg

Mandy Nash
The process of making is as much a part of the final outcome as the physical piece itself. Taking a lowly material such as mud; formless and dissolving and creating an object able to convey a sense of simplicity and quietude.
The vessel is humble, yet capable of capturing time; its concentric lines cause the eye to move from foot, belly to the refined edges of a porcelain rim, creating a gentle rhythm and momentum moving the eye from within one piece to the echo of another, lulling the viewer into a state of calm and contemplation.
My making is about the creation of humble open vessels that take their inspiration from oriental ceramics and have minimal decoration, letting the form of the work convey a message of simplicity and beauty.

Mae'r broses o wneud cymaint yn rhan o'r canlyniad terfynol â'r darn corfforol ei hun. Mae cymryd deunydd isel fel mwd; di siâp ac yn toddi a chreu gwrthrych sy'n gallu cyfleu ymdeimlad o symlrwydd a thawelwch.
Mae'r darn yn ddiymhongar, ond eto'n gallu dal amser; mae ei linellau crynodol yn peri i'r llygad symud o droed, bol i ymylon mireinio’r ymyl porslen, gan greu rhythm a momentwm ysgafn gan symud y llygad o fewn un darn i adlais un arall, gan dynnu'r gwyliwr i gyflwr digyffro a myfyrdod.
Mae fy ngwaith yn ymwneud â chreu darnau agored, diymhongar sy'n cael eu hysbrydoli gan gerameg dwyreiniol ac sydd ag ychydig iawn o addurn, gan adael i ffurf y gwaith gyfleu neges o symlrwydd a harddwch.
