DAVID ENGLAND

David England was born in the Blackcountry , West Midlands in 1954. He is a self-taught sculptor/painter/illustrator, living just south of Hereford.
After painting most of his life he veered towards stone carving twenty-five years ago, after producing a series of box-collages that included carved plaster items.
His last solo installation, ‘An Alchemy of Stone’ was at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery and attracted over four and a half thousand visitors.
David’s work is mostly figurative. He returns to a variety of themes on a regular basis: Medieval carving, The Celtic World, Mermaids, Angels and Green Men.
There are elements of cubism in his work – the ‘line’ is very important as the design transforms during the carving process.

Ganed David England yn y Wlad Ddu, Gorllewin Canolbarth Lloegr ym 1954. Mae'n gerflunydd / peintiwr / darlunydd hunan dysgedig, yn byw ychydig i'r de o Henffordd. Ar ôl paentio'r rhan fwyaf o'i oes fe aeth at i gerfio cerrig bum mlynedd ar hugain yn ôl, ar ôl cynhyrchu cyfres o ludweithiau bocs a oedd yn cynnwys eitemau plastr cerfiedig. Roedd ei osodiad unigol diwethaf, ‘An Alchemy of Stone’ yn Amgueddfa ac Oriel Gelf Henffordd gyda dros bedair mil a hanner o ymwelwyr wedi’u hymweld.

Mae gwaith David yn ffigurol ar y cyfan. Mae'n dychwelyd i amrywiaeth o themâu yn rheolaidd: Cerfio canoloesol, Y Byd Celtaidd, Môr-forynion, Angylion a Dynion Gwyrdd. Mae yna elfennau o giwbiaeth yn ei waith - mae’r ‘llinell’ yn bwysig iawn wrth i’r dyluniad drawsnewid yn ystod y broses gerfio.
