SUSAN SMITH

 textile artist / Artist tecstil

Mandy Nash
The traditional skill of sewing learned as a child has been a major influence in Susan Smith’s life leading ultimately to a career in the professions of museums and education throughout which she has pursued her own textile practice.
Primarily an embroiderer, she delights in colour, pattern and texture, working on a small scale and paying meticulous attention to detail. Her preferred working materials are natural fabrics and fibres that are sometimes combined with hand made paper and found objects. In her embroideries, textile jewellery and beaded keepsake pincushions she invariably combines both modern and vintage materials or works with traditional Welsh wool.
//
Mae sgil traddodiadol o wnïo a ddysgwyd fel plenty wedi bod yn ddylanwad mawr ym mywyd Susan Smith, sydd wedi arwain yn y pen draw at yrfa ym mhroffesiynau amgueddfeydd ac addysg gan barhau gyda’i gwaith tecstilau personol.
Fel brodwr yn bennaf, mae hi wrth ei bodd â lliw, patrwm a gwead, gan weithio ar raddfa fach gan dynnu sylw at fanylion yn ei gwaith. Ei hoff ddeunyddiau yw ffabrigau naturiol a ffabrigau sydd wedi cael eu huno a phapur wedi ei wneud â llaw. Yn eu brodweithiau, mae Susan yn cyfuno deunyddiau modern a hen ffasiwn gyda gwlân traddodiadol Cymreig.
