In mid January, Maker Member Liz Lawrence was contacted by Chwarae Teg, a charity that supports and promotes women in the workplace in Wales. Chwarae Teg asked Liz if she would make a set of awards for the first ever Womenspire Event taking place in the spring of this year. As a female ceramic artist who has lived and worked in Wales since 2003, Liz was delighted to be offered this unique opportunity.

Based on Liz’s recent ‘Wave Series’ the final design for the 2016 Womenspire Awards is an uplifting shape which aspires to emulate and celebrate the high achievement attained by the Award Winners. Liz’s ‘Wave Series’ is group of ceramic sculptures taking inspiration from the power and energy of sea and can be seen at Craft in the Bay in Cardiff.

The 2016 Womenspire Award Ceremony was held on 14 April at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and was a huge success.
